The United States does not recognize the outcome of the referendum on Kurdish independence

The United States does not recognize the outcome of a referendum on independence in Kurdistan, Iraq, with autonomy, said the US Secretary of State in his Friday statement.

Rex Tillerson in the document urged the actors to abandon the threats. He said: “The United States does not recognize the unilateral referendum,” and at the same time has called for the parties involved in dialogue.
Washington is of the view that the referendum held by the Kurdistan Regional Government on Monday and its result is not legitimate.
Tillerson said, “We continue to support a united, federal, democratic and prosperous Iraq.” He added: “The US government is calm and” demands from all parties concerned, including Iraq’s neighbors, to reject all unilateral measures and violence “. He also called for ending of mutual accusations and retaliation threats. Iraqi Kurds in their referendum on 25 September supported an overwhelming majority in establishing an independent state. The results of the referendum, neither Iraqi leadership nor the surrounding states, are recognized, and finally Maszúd Barzani, president of the Kurdish Autonomous Communities, has announced that they will “snoop” for the referendum for two years.
The United States has repeatedly stated before the referendum that it does not agree with the referendum and has also asked the Kurdish leaders to withdraw it. But the US president, unlike Emmanuel Macron, a French head of state, has not yet made a direct contact with Haider al-Abadi, the Iraqi leader.
