The European Commission proposes a new and comprehensive strategy for improving transport, energy and digital infrastructure networks between Europe and Asia – said High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy of the European Union (EU) on Wednesday.
The High Representative has said that the EU proposes to deepen human relations, alongside transport links and digital networks. It intends to improve the interconnection of the energy network with Asian countries and organizations and promote sustainable financing through the use of various financial instruments.
As you said, improving connections will increase the resilience of societies and regions, encourage trade, promote the emergence of a rule-based international system and open a road to a more sustainable, low-carbon future.
Mogherini, in a press conference after the presentation of the proposal, responded to a journalist questioning that EU action did not respond to China’s policy. No response to another initiative, “the European Union’s proposals, policies and their timetable are not compared to others,” the High Representative said.
Violeta Bulc, Commissioner for Transport, said the strategy did not specify a specific budget, but the EU committee would initially rely on a fund of 60 billion euros for investors.
The EU Commission is informed that the proposals will be discussed in the next section by the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union and will be discussed at the forthcoming Summit of the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM), to be held in Brussels on 18-19 October.
