A terrorist organization named three Syrian citizens of the Islamic State (IÁ) was convicted on Monday in Hamburg, Germany.
According to the Upper Austrian court, the three men were so-called sleeping terrorists. Hiding in refugees, they leaked to Germany in 2015, with the task of being prepared to carry out a terrorist attack.
One of them was sentenced to six and a half years’ imprisonment for membership in a foreign terrorist organization. The other two were sentenced to a lighter sentence of three and a half years, claiming that they were juveniles at the time of the offense.
The court found that the three men were the same terrorist group as the perpetrators of the series of assassinations in Paris in November 2015 but had fallen before they were activated. This is supported by the testimony of one of the defendants.
The German authorities certainly hindered a serious terrorist act by intercepting the group through international cooperation. The terrorists did not yet have any specific plans when they were detained in the Schleswig-Holstein refugee resorts in September 2016 but were certainly arrested in the country with the intent of committing assassinations and many of the parallelisms between them and the series of attacks in Paris were raised by the Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR) regional public service media company report.
