Germany accepts people from ships sinking into the Mediterranean

Germany has agreed to take over 50 asylum seekers from the nearly 450 people who have been sailing on two ships for some days in the Mediterranean Sea near Sicily, said Sunday, the news portal of the Die Welt Conservative German newspaper.

Asylum seekers are currently on board a European Union Border Guard Agency, Frontex and the Italian authorities, which neither Italy nor Malta have admitted to its ports.

Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte made a letter to Jean-Claude Juncker, President of the European Commission and Donald Tuskon, President of the European Council, to the other 27 EU Member States: show a “clear signal” of taking part in the burden and allowing part of the asylum seekers or accepted. According to the letter, Malta and France have already announced that they will accommodate 50 to 50 people.
