For the Golden Globe this year, most of them arrived in black dress, expressing their support for abused women.
The harassment scandal has not only shaken Hollywood, but it has also shed the aura of the awards ceremony. At the event, many stars appeared in black dress instead of previous colored dresses, and within the Time’s Up movement they wanted to voice their condemnation of sexual harassment and to express their sympathy with the victims.
As for the prizewinners, one of the biggest winners of the evening was Martin McDonagh, who had won three categories of films on Three Billboards at Ebbing’s End. Among the series, HBO and Hulu were delighted: the Big Little Lies were awarded four prizes, and the Puppet’s Tales were rewarded with two awards. The biggest reverberation in the evening was undoubtedly due to the speech of Oprah Winfrey, who was awarded a lifetime prize.
Seth Meyers is open to “2018, marijuana is finally legal, sexual harassment is not done”. He also talked about North Korea, Harvey Weinstein, and Kevin Spacey. He highlighted the position of women and concluded that “everyone had to work hard enough to get there, but more women”.
The biggest star of the evening was clearly Oprah Winfrey, the award winning Cecil B. DeMille. In his speech, he highlighted that he was the first color-skinned woman to receive this award and is sure that this is a great deal for young girls who see him in this situation and think that they can win this prize one day . He also talked about the fact that this year women became the protagonists of the stories, and added: this change has not only affected Hollywood.
Among the series, the Great Little Lies and the Puppet’s Tales took the most prizes. However, Netflix did not have a good evening, their good news was saved by Aziz Ansari, who won the Best Actress Award in the Comedy Series category.
One of the films has not been able to cover the successes of last year’s California dream, but most of the awards have been awarded to Martin McDonagh’s Three Bill of Quantities at Ebbing’s End. This was the best drama film, received the best screenplay award, and this film also took the best male actress and best female prize winner.
In the comedy category, Lady Bird won, and her protagonist Saoirse Ronan became the best actress in the category. In men, James Franco became the best actor in the comedy category.
It was a minor surprise that Gary Oldman became the best actor in the drama category who formed Winston Churchill in the darkest hour. He had previously criticized the HFPA awarding the award, for some people expected to potentially hurt their chances. Another surprise was that, in vain, Guillermo del Toro’s “The Touch of Water” had won most of the nominations in advance, of which he was only the best director to win.
