SHORT REF: European Commission: Economic growth will remain strong this year and next year

Growth in the economy is expected to remain robust in both the European Union and the euro area in 2018 and 2019, with 2.1 per cent this year, up 2 per cent next year, according to the European Commission’s summer economic forecast published on Thursday.

When presenting the report, Valdis Dombrovskis, European Commission Vice-President for Europe and Social Dialogue Commissioner, said that after five consecutive strong growth in the first quarter of 2018, economic momentum slowed down and in the EU and the euro area it was expected to grow by 0.2 percentage points will be lower than predicted in the spring.
In the second half of this year, the dynamics of growth are expected to increase somewhat, as labor market conditions improve, household debt falls, consumer confidence remains unchanged and monetary policy is also supportive.
