Because of the earthquake that extinguishes more than three hundred lives, the height above sea level of the island of Lombok in Indonesia has increased by 25 centimeters.
Researchers at the US Space Agency, NASA and the California Institute of Technology, based on satellite images taken after the earthquake of 5 August, found that the surface height of the island has changed. The altitude of the island rose above the epicenter, while the rest of the island decreased by 5 to 15 centimeters.
As a result of the seven-magnitude earthquake, some 270,000 people have become deadly, after the natural disaster has destroyed 68,000 homes on the Indonesian island.
Indonesia lies on the periphery of the 40,000-kilometer long so-called Pacific Ring of Fire, where seismic and volcanic activities are a great part of the rest of the world. There are more than three quarters of the world’s active and dormant volcanoes.
